Want to speed up the shopping process and buy a quality keyboard and mouse together in a bundle? When I wake it up, the laptop says it is charging in Windows, and the amber charging light is on, but nothing is plugged in.

This has persisted through multiple reboots and firmware updates, but it seems that I finally got rid of it by plugging the power cable into the USB-C slot with the light and quickly pulling it out.

IDK what this is, but this happens to me when i unplug the power cord from my dock while its plugged into my laptop. As mentioned if you go into bios and disconnect the battery then the machine goes back into a normal state. I had this too. I got around it not saying fixed it because it happened more than once by pressing the small reset button with the small hole under the laptop. Push with a pin or something to perform the reset.

No data is lost during the reset. For those searching for an answer, I just had this exact thing happen to my X1 6th Gen.

The solution is ever simpler than going through BIOS gyrations and re-boots. You need only do a complete, "Hard Reset" by inserting a paper clip or push pin into the "super secret reset" hole. Don't know about his special orifice? I didnt either as it is buried deep in the virtual manual and isnt labeled on the underside of the X1.

Since you can't pull the battery like in the old days, the only way to totally cut the power is either with the BIOS battery reset someone mentioned above, or to insert a paperclip or pin into the tiny, unlabled reset hole. Operating the tiny switch inside physically disconnects the powerallowing the X1's charging brain to reset.

As soon as I did this, the phantom charging light went off and the laptop started charging as normal. Or skip the BIOS gyrations and reboots. Grab a paper clip. View All. Lenovo is committed to environmental leadership from operations to product design and recycling solutions.

It is always safest to use a charger exactly like the one delivered with the laptop. The parts list for the 6th gen carbon does list the 45w charger, so I would expect it will charge. A watt charger might charge the battery more slowly and while running, the CPU is more likely to be throttled down.

The USB-c power spec is complicated and some non-Lenovo ones work and some do not. I cannot be sure whether the linkj you listed will work, but it doews put out 2. I've pretty much learned I can swap chargers at will, use the Thinkpad charger for the Macbook or the Macbook charger for the Thinkpad, or either of them for any mobile devices.

We've swapped and with a friend's HP laptop's charger back and forth too. My concern is bad quality chargers. If Amazon sells it, it's probably nuclear waste. But assuming a high quality build, the brand of the charger really does not seem to matter one way or the other.

Of course the wattage matters and affects charge speed, but that you already noted. View All. Lenovo is committed to environmental leadership from operations to product design and recycling solutions.

Go Shop.I'm trying to find out the original part for the charger for my Lenovo X1 Carbon i7 U model which was been lost. I'm a bit confused if it does because I thought this machine had a 65W charger, and the cutout space for a charger inside the box seems to match the 65W size. Can anybody help? That model could have come with the 45 or 65 watt versions, and both would work as a replacement, with the 65 watt providing a slightly faster charge due to is higher Amperage rating.

You could probably find the charger locally, but they may be clones, so if you want the original Lenovo adapter, they are available at the links below. The parts linked below are the standard brick sized. In the UK, I believe you want the 3 pin line cord, which might not ship with the adapter, so you may need to purchase the power cord seperately.

Thanks for your replies. So I guess that means it was a 45W that this machine originally shipped with? That would seem to be the case, but you can certainly go with a 65 watt if desired when purchasing a replacement, as the only difference is that the 65W model supports a 3. With such a small difference in charging time, for travelling what's more important is size and weight.

My concern is that it provides only 30W. The X1C6 ships with either a 45W or 65W charger depending on the model. Even if a 30W charger works, it may not be powerful enough to recharge the system while it's in use or may take a very long time to do so.

I purchased a spare charger for my X1C6.

I carry it in the same bag as the system so I don't forget it. But before you do that, try the PD charger that you have now. It's possible that 30W is enough to recharge your X1C6. If not, and you buy a 45W or 65 Lenovo charger then it should be able to also recharge your smartphone, i. Might end up buying a 65W charger that has a removable output so I can use my own cable if I can find one.

Thanks in advance, Mats. The powerbank won't work since it's not PD compatible. This helped me too. I will most likely carry the default charger anyway, was just thinking it might save me in a pinch. I have the 20BS model, with a x screen resolution. So I'll go ahead and use the 45N charger, thanks:. The 45W adapter was offered as the default option and there was no mention the 65W adapter would be required to power the QHD display. I plan to travel with the 45W adapter, because of the smaller size.

Stay in touch Our commitment to the environment Lenovo is committed to environmental leadership from operations to product design and recycling solutions. When I plug it in, the orange light blinks 1 second on, 1 offand the windows battery status icon on the system tray flicks on and off between "plugged-in charging " and "not charging".

Furthermore, the task bar flickers as it goes on and off thinking that it is trying to mount and unmount a USB device. I'm pretty sure the chargers are ok, as they will charge other devices like my phone, a battary pack, and a MacBook. Just, when I plug them into my X1, I get problems. Not sure if this is due to a recent Lenovo Vantage update, or Windows 10 Update. I recently did the Windows 10 update. However, even if I turn the computer off the Lenovo charger blinks the orange charge light, and will not charge the X1.

The battery will say "plugged-in not charging ". This is interesting, becuase this is a new occurence. I've been able to charge from either port before untill recently, so something must have happened in a recent update.

So, if you have this issue, it seems that you need to "hard reset" the computer. On the Think Pad X1 Carbon 6th Gen 20KHthere is a small hole on the botton of the computer, that you need to poke with a paperclip or someting after turning the computer off. This aparently really resets the computer so nothing is left running. After doing so, the charger works just fine now.

I guess some power management program was left running even after restarting the computer, and doing a "hard reset" finially rebooted it. I wish Lenovo made it easier to chat to a support person online though. I tried to find an option to, and eventually opened a warranty claim because I thought this was a hardware problem until I saw this post.

If it had been easier to talk to a support person, I would have worked this out much earlier. I'm also facing similar issue in my x1 carbon 6th gen laptop where battery shows plugged in and not charging. As mentioned in response, I might need to do hard-reset of the laptop.

My doubt is if I hard-reset the laptop, will I lose all my data?? View All. Lenovo is committed to environmental leadership from operations to product design and recycling solutions.
